Does a Mr. Lott own Lott Fence?

FAQ

Lott Fence is solely owned by the Cranor family and there have been no Lotts associated with Lott Fence since August 31, 1988. Danne Cranor, the owner, began working at Lott Fence in 1986 when he started as a student at the University of Texas. Little did Danne know then that his summer job would end up being his profession. Danne began as the lowest man on the totem pole at Lott Fence that summer working in the fenceyard for $5.00 per hour. He has over the years at Lott Fence worn all the hats from general laborer, to fenceyard foreman, to fencing installer, to truck driver, to cleanup specialist, to fence salesman, to company manager, to minor partner, to complete ownership. The buck begins and ends with Danne Cranor at Lott Fence. Lott Fence is not and has never been affiliated with Lott Homes, Lott Brothers, Lott Investments, or Lott Construction.

CCC-Consumer Cedar Confusion

FLYING 4

Every day at Lott Fence we talk to someone who is mixed up about cedar lumber. If you ask and even if you do not, Danne will more than likely bore(educate) you about wood for fencing, how great Lott Fence is, etcetera[HA]. There are lots of different types cedar trees. They all have varying characteristics, but the one thing they all have in common is that they are all conifers and belong to the cypress family. At Lott Fence we only build with one variety of cedar and that is Western Red Cedar. Probably around half of all cedar used for fencing is not Western Red Cedar. See the section of LottFence.com called FENCE CENTS for more information. It is also true that a lot of wood for fencing and pickets especially is presented as another kind of cedar or Western Red Cedar when it is not a cedar at all. Lots of commercial softwoods and hardwoods are passed off as other types of forest products to the unknowing customer.

How deep are your posts set?

FAQ

We always try to set posts at the very minimum 18" deep regardless of the type of fence/barrier/pole or ground conditions, but sometimes 18" is not feasible or necessary due to "bad" rock. In some cases we are happy to have a 12" depth in some rock. When the soil is "soft" we usually set posts 24"-30" at the most shallow, and once in a while we have to set a post 3'+ for a certain reason.

Our wood fence fasteners-fascinating!

FLYING 4

At Lott Fence we have our standard fasteners for most of our fencing and we have specialty fasteners for certain styles of fences. Please call to get the exact details because we do not put this information on the internet. We will tell you here some of the types of fasteners that others use that Lott Fence will not employ. We do not use nails or screws that are too long or too short. We will not use wood screws where lag screws are necessary. We do not use galvanized or coated fasteners that will bleed/stain our wooden pickets or finishes. Lott Fence never uses smooth shank, ring shank, barbed shank or factory reject nails. We spend the extra money on better fasteners for both aesthetics and binding. Fasteners are the "glue" that holds things together, but types of woods that have greater withdrawal resistances are just as important.

Do you "cement" the fence posts?

FAQ

We concrete every type of post we set except for "driven in" tee posts or "temporary fence" posts of different styles. The size of the post, the diameter of the post hole, the type of ground, and the depth of the hole are all factors in how much of concrete we use for each post set. We use our own LOTTMIX concrete mixture so we are able to warranty our sets. Please call to get the exact details because we do not put this information on the internet. Lott Fence does not use any bag, sack, or bucket premixtures, masonry sand or pea/seed gravel. We also wet mix our concrete instead of dry packing. Dry packing is when a concoction is put in the post hole dry and then has water hosed or poured on top. Dry packing for fence posts in done by many many installers and is a terrible way to set posts! Lott Fence's clients find out what it is like to have the best wet mix concrete this side of a cement truck for their posts.

Do I have to be home for the fence work?

FAQ

A client does not have to be on the work site for Lott Fence to do your installation. Many customers cannot be home or on property during our fencing projects because of their jobs or other commitments. We usually have 99% of layout questions answered before the fence is ever started, so getting in contact with an absent client for something is the exception rather than the rule. If a question comes up for one or our crewleaders, Danne(Lott Fence's owner) is just an office or mobile phone call away.

A Lott better gate.

FLYING 4

Lott Fence builds/installs the best gating systems bar none. We have our own wood fence wooden frame NO SAG design as well as our Lott style of custom metal tube framed gates. Please call to get the exact details because we do not put this information on the internet. Lott Fence does install some prefab chain-link and farm-type gates, but we are very picky about other manufacturers' gates and hardware. As a company, we have always approached gates more seriously than others because they are the focus point of most barrier systems.
